Holt Gordon, freshman at Halifax Academy, will head to Mobile, Alabama on June 15 through 18 to compete in the spelling bee at the National Jr. Beta Convention.

Gordon placed third at the state convention in February and is excited to be the first to represent his school at the national level.

Gordon has received numerous awards and honors for not only scholastics, but athletics as well.

His many honors include: A and A/B Honor Roll, SGA President, Jr. Beta Club member, swim team where he qualified for state, middle school basketball where he won the Viking Award, JV Basketball where he received the coach’s award, JV Basketball where he received best offensive award and membership in the Octagon Club.

To help sponsor Gordon’s trip, a savings account has been opened at BB&T in the name of William Holt Gordon — Jr. Beta Fundraiser — for individuals or businesses that would like to make a contribution.

A car wash will be held Saturday at the Forest Hills Service Center from 10 a.m. until and a barbecue sandwich lunch will be held June 12 at Pro-Build where individuals may go inside and deposit donations.

All checks should be made out to William Holt Gordon, with Jr. Beta Fund Donation written in the memo. This will allow contributors to write the donation off on their taxes.
