A home security system Thursday night helped police identify and arrest an alleged break-in suspect.

Shortly before 11:45 Roanoke Rapids police officers Chris Babb and Kris Jordan arrived in the 400 block of Marshall Street on a breaking and entering call.

The victim reported when he got home he found the inside of his house ransacked and two shotguns missing. A collection of Zippo lighters was also stolen.

Reviewing the homeowner’s personal security system, the officers identified 17-year-old Trevonte Clanton.

Officers located Clanton, of 319 Madison Street, sitting in a vehicle parked in the lower 300 block of Madison a few hours later.

They recovered one of the Zippo lighters and 12-gage ammunition.

Clanton faces charges of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny of a firearm, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and larceny after breaking and entering.

He was jailed on $12,000 bond and has a July 31 court date.

Police continue to look for a second person allegedly involved. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
