Lieutenant George Evans of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alarm call shortly after 6:15, according to Chief Deputy Wes Tripp.
Evans discovered a rear window was pried open and recalled seeing a man, later identified as Kehaad Cornelious Hawkins, walking down the road.
Lieutenant Tim Harris spotted Hawkins, 21, of Roanoke Rapids, as Deputy Chris Bowden and his dog Dusko followed a mile track to where Harris had the man detained.
Detective Rich Somogyi took Hawkins into custody and charged him with breaking and entering and injury to real property.
Hawkins was jailed on $11,500 bond and given an August 7 court date.
Tripp said nothing was taken and teamwork helped get Hawkins in custody.
