A woman was hospitalized after she was kidnapped, beaten and robbed Saturday afternoon around 11th Street in Weldon.

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said two acquaintances, one later identified as Antoine Richardson, picked her up from her place of employment.

During this time the two men allegedly assaulted her, beating her badly, and then took her money.

She was dropped off at an undisclosed location and managed to get to Halifax Regional Medical Center, although Hall was not certain how.

Deputy Matt Brown, a canine handler, received notice the victim was at HRMC for treatment.

His investigation with assistance from Lieutenant Roy Rooks determined that Richardson and the other man, who has not yet been identified, picked her up after work.

She was taken to the area of The Strip in what is commonly referred to as the South Weldon area where she was assaulted. After the assault, the suspects stole cash from the victim and then took her to another location.

Warrants have been obtained for Richardson's arrest on charges of robbery, kidnapping and assault on a female.

Richardson, who is from Weldon, typically hangs out in town.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
