The Roanoke Rapids based RV Power (04) U-8 travel girls softball team traveled to Clayton this weekend to compete in their first ever tournament. Players Brooke Ott and Berkley Garner had seen U-8 action on the RV Power team last season coached by Jimmy Powers, who moved up to the U-10 division this season. The other players had also seen top level softball action on the RVGSL all-star team.
The RV Power girls played two pool games Saturday going 1-1. They lost the first game 4-0 to the Crystal Coast Riptides and won game two 13-1 against the Pamilco Wild Things. Next was their first bracket game where they faced the Carolina Mayhem in which they lost 15-10.
On Sunday morning the team had an early start with bracket game 2 at 9:55 am. The girls earned the win against the Crystal Coast Riptides this time 25-16. “Every girl smacked the ball and played awesome,” said head coach Jen Ott.
The girls continued their quest by advancing to bracket game 3. This time they would face a new team not faced this weekend, the Coastal Crush. The RV Power came out on top of the scoreboard 14-10.
