The Halifax County Sheriff's Office this morning seized just over a pound of marijuana and arrested four people — three of them for resisting arrest — following a traffic stop on Interstate 95.

Lieutenant Anzell Harris said Deputy T.M. Sewell stopped a vehicle near the 163 mile marker in the Enfield area for a motor vehicle violation just before 2:15 a.m.

Sewell, according to Harris, identified the driver as Susan Denise Watson.

Sewell reportedly could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as he talked to the driver and three other occupants.

The occupants refused to get out of the vehicle so Sewell could perform a probable cause search, Harris said.

With assistance from Lieutenant Neil Aycock, deputy and canine handler C. Boden, Sergeant Randy Keeton, Deputy J. Allen and the state Highway Patrol, an ultimate search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 462 grams of marijuana. The search also netted marijuana roaches, smoking devices, rolling papers and a grinder.

Ryan Rivera

Ryan Matthew Rivera, 27, of Greenville, was charged for felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a public officer.

Watson, 21; Courtney Jo McGowen, 21, and Tyson Anthony Rivera, 24, all of Greenville were charged with resisting a public officer

The three charged with resisting were given $500 secured bonds while Rivera received a $10,000 bond. They all received December 4 court dates.

Harris said the four were returning to Greenville from an undisclosed location in New York when stopped.
