A 27-year-old Halifax woman is wanted in the Sunday night murder of Chris Harrison, according to the county sheriff's office.

Burnell

The sheriff's office, Sheriff Wes Tripp said, has drawn warrants for the arrest of Tierra Marie Burnell for accessory before the fact of armed robbery and murder.

Tripp said the murder warrant was filed for under the felony murder rule, a rule that makes a person criminally liable for any deaths.

Tripp declined to say whether Burnell actually killed Harrison, 29, at his house Sunday night or whether she was the girlfriend of Monte Hines, a masked man believed to be the assailant in the home invasion who was found dead between Harrison's house and an abandoned house.

Tripp said investigators have not determined who killed Hines.

The sheriff said he was very sure more arrests would be made in the murder. He declined comment on a possible motive although both Hines and Harrison had criminal records.

Burnell, who also has a criminal record, was last known to be in the Raleigh and Garner areas of Wake County.

The sheriff's office recovered a handgun within what Tripp earlier this week called the crime scene but would not elaborate.

The sheriff's office received a call around 11:30 p.m. Sunday that a person had been shot at his residence. Harrison was found lying face down inside the residence near the front door.

Harrison, who was first found by his mother and his uncle, had a gunshot wound to the head and left side of his torso.

Anyone with information on Burnell’s whereabouts, is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
