A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested for allegedly stealing $44 from a convenience store he worked at.

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the charge of larceny by employee against Semaj Edwards, 25, reflects a reported one-time theft from one of the stores he worked at within the New Dixie Oil Company chain.

The company filed the report on Tuesday morning that an employee was possibly stealing money.

Sergeant Randy Keeton investigated and later arrested Edwards.

Edwards received a $700 secured bond and was given a July 16 court date.

There is the possibility of additional charges as the investigation continues.
