A local minister has been charged with indecent liberties with a child.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp confirmed that the charge filed against William Ray Meinsen, 47, does not reflect any alleged activity at the church where he serves as a minister.

Tripp said the charge filed against Meinsen was done following an investigation that began around the end of February.

Tripp said both he and Halifax County District Attorney Melissa Pelfrey reviewed the case file and agreed there was probable cause to proceed with the charge.

The case involves a teenaged child. Tripp declined to say whether the child was a boy or girl or discuss any further details of the case.

Meinsen, who is minister at New Life Church of Christ on East Tenth Street, was given a $2,500 bond and is awaiting a July 17 court date.

The alleged offense, Tripp said, occurred in the county.
