A prior disagreement that escalated early this morning at the Weldon Waffle House left two people with gunshot wounds.

One of the people who was shot was apparently with a man and a woman who targeted the intended victim but wound up getting hit in the crossfire. That person is currently in critical condition at an undisclosed medical facility, Weldon Police Chief Mark Macon said. He sustained gunshot wounds to the lower extremities from the backside.

The intended target was shot and also took a stun gun hit, but was treated, released and is recovering.

The shooting took place just after 3 this morning following some argument that occurred elsewhere, Macon said. The nature of that argument is not known.

The three people, two men and a woman, had a run-in with the intended victim.

It is not known if the person who got caught in the crossfire had a weapon, but Macon said the man did have a gun and the woman had a stun gun. Police believe the man with the gun may be nicknamed Boogie or Bookie while the woman is believed to be nicknamed Coco.

Boogie and Coco may be boyfriend and girlfriend and may be from the Gaston area. Investigators are trying to determine the precise roles the three played in the matter.

The shooting comes after Waffle House decided to not employ off-duty officers after a long streak with no violent crimes being committed there, Macon said. “The district manager is going to reinstate that. I could say we had some fights but nothing to the extent of this when we were working security.”

Anyone with information about the shooting or the identities of Boogie and Coco is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
