The 2014 WENDY’S High
school Heisman program
recognizes two of Hobgood Acadmey achieving Seniors
and one of Southeast Halifax High achieving Senior.
Christopher Braddy and Arianna Flanary of Hobgood
Academy and Bria Richardson of Southeast Halifax
High were recently named School Winners for the
nationally-recognized Wendy’s® High School Heisman®
Award. Braddy, Flanary & Richardson were selected
based on their outstanding academic and athletic
achievements, and leadership within their community.
These students will move on to the next stage of the
program for the chance to be named one of two State
Finalists, and for the continued consideration of the
National Winner award.
For 20 years, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award
has recognized the achievements of exceptionally well-
rounded students. Like the collegiate Heisman Memorial
Trophy, known as the highest award in college football,
the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program honors the
all-star performances of high school seniors in the
classroom, on the field and in the community.
The next announcement, November 3, will include the
names of the State Finalists selected from every state
and the District of Columbia. Following the State Finalists’
announcement, the names of the two State Winners,
one male and one female, will be revealed before the
group is narrowed down to 12 National Finalists. The
12 National Finalists, six males and six females, and
their families will receive an all-expense paid trip to
New York City to attend the Wendy’s High School Heisman
Award Ceremony and the announcement of the two
National Winners.
The Wendy’s® High School Heisman® Program was
created in 1994 by Wendy’s and the Heisman Memorial
Trust, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program
recognizes outstanding high school seniors nationwide
who excel in athletics, academics and community
leadership. Students can nominate themselves for the
award online, in addition to being recommended by
principals, teachers, guidance counselors and coaches.
The most exceptional students are then selected to
advance during extensive judging processes conducted
at both state and national levels.
