A Roanoke Rapids woman was arrested for heroin possession this afternoon when a Halifax County Sheriff's Office narcotics agent reportedly observed her driving left of center on Country Club Road in Weldon.

Lieutenant Harold Phillips said Janice Denice Hannon, 50, was apparently headed back towards Roanoke Rapids around 4 p.m.when Agent D.C. Dickens noticed the infraction.

Hannon seemed to be nervous when Dickens was talking to her, Phillips said. When she was asked to step out of the car she handed a straw with cocaine residue to the agent.

Eight bindles of heroin were found in her pocket. She was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was jailed on $3,000 secured bond and given a court date of December 3.
