A 75-year-old woman already on unsupervised probation following a February drug sting at 209 Ransome Circle in Weldon is in more trouble today after her arrest on marijuana charges this morning on Maria Avenue.

Captain Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office charged Ruth Hampton with manufacture marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia following a raid that occurred just before 5 a.m.

The raid is part of an ongoing investigation into the residence, from which drugs are believed to be sold, Harris said.

This morning narcotics agents confiscated a marijuana plant and paraphernalia that reportedly included a glass smoking pipe, a digital scale and the pot that contained the plant.

Hampton was given a $5,000 bond and January 7 court date.

Today was not her first brush with the law, Harris said, as in February she was charged with possessing 16.82 grams of cocaine in her purse during a search warrant execution at 209 Ransome Circle, commonly referred to as the Community House in Weldon.

Harris said Hampton received deferred prosecution in August for the Ransome Circle case and was given a year of unsupervised probation.

Agents are continuing to follow up on the complaints of drug sales at this residence.

Citizens are encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252 583-4444.
