The theft of a tire Saturday in Enfield went flat for two men as they were caught when trying to place it on their vehicle.

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the theft occurred around 3 p.m. at L&E Garage on Highway 561.

Sergeant Dreher Bozard responded and further investigation resulted in a vehicle description.

Bozard and Deputy Dusty Newsome located the vehicle at another mechanic shop where Kawan Strickland, 25, and Junior Evan Lewis, 25, were trying to have the tire placed on the vehicle.

The deputies recovered the stolen tire and charged the men with larceny and possession of stolen property.

Further investigation also determined that Strickland was wanted for an unrelated break-in. For that matter he was charged with breaking and entering; larceny after breaking and entering; felony possession of stolen property and obtaining property by false pretense.

Strickland received an $8,000 secured bond while Lewis received a $1,000 secured bond.

Both men are scheduled to appear in court April 1.

The tire was returned to the owner.
