RRYBA Wednesday Minor League action

The Grasshoppers, sponsored by Lisa Christenbury Heating & Cooling, got their second win of the season against the Rockhounds, sponsored by Secure Zoo's, on Wednesday night at King Field.

Seth Tickel got the Rockhounds off to a good start with a triple and earned run scored by Caleb Hall in the top of the 1st inning. Logan Thompson followed with a single by beating the throw from the pitcher to 1st base. Aric Stewart, pitcher for the Grasshoppers, struck out two batters and tagged out the runner attempting to steal home to hold the Rockhounds to one run.

Andrew Vincent lead off the Grasshoppers with a single followed by a single and two earned runs from Wesley Boerner and a single and earned run from Hunter Sparks. Nate Riggs, pitcher for the Rockhounds, shut down the inning with three strikeouts in the bottom of the 1st.
 
The Grasshoppers' defense took control of the top of the 2nd with shortstop, Hunter Sparks, throwing out the batter runner at 1st and a double play by 2nd baseman, Andrew Vincent, tagging out the runner going to 2nd and throwing out the batter-runner to 1st baseman Eli Mason. 
 
Brian Smith started off the bottom of the 2nd for the Grasshoppers with a hit deep in left field. The Rockhounds leftfielder hustled and held the runner at 1st base. The Rockhounds held the Grasshoppers to 0 runs with a strikeout by the pitcher, Nate Riggs, and a double play by the catcher, Landon Smith, securing a foul pop fly and tagging out the runner at 1st base for the 3rd out.
 
Aric Stewart shut down the Rockhounds in the top of the 3rd by striking out three of three batters
 
The Rockhounds kept the game close in the bottom of the 3rd with the 1st baseman hustling to tag out the batter-runner at 1st and Seth Tickel, pitcher, striking out the 2nd and 6th batters leaving three runners on base.
 
The defense of the Grasshoppers held their ground with Eli Mason, 1st baseman, tagging out the batter-runner at 1st and Aric Stewart striking out two of three batters in the top of the 4th.
 
The Rockhounds played hard throughout the whole game but let it slip away in the bottom of the 4th with a single and earned run from Brian Smith and a single from Koby Jones for a final score of 7-1.
 
Grasshopper Team Highlights:
Wesley Boerner, Mikey Hartson, Gavin Hux, Ben Keeter, Eli Mason, Brian Smith and Andrew Vincent each scored one run.
 
Rockhounds Team Highlights:
Caleb Hall scored one run.
