A Washington man was arrested for breaking a domestic violence protective order and in the process was charged with a residential break-in.

The arrest of Terry Jones, 25, occurred Thursday around 5:30 p.m. on North Poplar Street in Hobgood when Deputy Steven Casey and Sergeant Dennis Coley went to serve the order, according to Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

While the officers were at the residence, Jones verbally abused the victim after he was instructed to stop.

Jones was arrested for the violation and placed into custody.

While still at the residence, Casey learned of an unreported break-in to another home on North Poplar Street.

Further investigation led to the filing of breaking and entering charges against Jones.

Casey charged him with breaking and entering; larceny after breaking and entering; felony possession of stolen goods and violating a domestic violence protective order.

The bond for the breaking and entering charges was $3,000 and he was jailed without the opportunity for bond on the violation of the domestic order.

He was assigned a July 22 court date.

Some of the stolen property, mainly jewelry, has been recovered, Hall said.
