Lowe's gives lift to Weldon day care

For Roger Edwards, the help from the Lowe's Home Improvement Heroes Program couldn't come at a better time.

A man who came to the Weldon Police Department Tuesday for questioning in a matter which is still under investigation was found to be in possession of five baggies of powdered cocaine and a concealed weapon.

An 18-year-old was arrested and juvenile petitions are being sought for a 15-year-old in residential break-ins in the Weldon area.

Manning school plans unveiled

The Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Board of Trustees got its first look Tuesday night at the new Manning Elementary School on Park Avenue.

City council will begin studying a proposed ordinance which would allow the keeping of potbellied pigs as pets and expects to fully discuss the matter at its November 17 meeting.

Negotiations continue with a commercial real firm to market and advertise the Roanoke Rapids Theatre for sale, City Manager Joseph Scherer told council this evening.

Some 750 dosage units of heroin packed in 14 bricks were seized early this morning following a high-speed chase in the Scotland Neck area that began when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop.

Becker Dr. shooting call leads to arrests

There were no injuries reported to law enforcement after a shots fired call in the area of Becker Drive Saturday morning, Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said this evening.
