Special meeting on theater set

The special meeting on the Roanoke Rapids Theatre payment is scheduled for Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the first floor conference room of city hall. Council will consider a budget amendment for an appropriation to the airport authority in open session and then go in closed session for the apparent talks about the theater issue.

Mills to be served arrest warrant

On the day after votes are canvassed in the Scotland Neck election, the town’s current mayor, James E. Mills Sr., will be served an order for arrest Wednesday for failure to appear in court for a 2009 driving while license revoked charge.

Two nabbed in Garysburg robbery

Special meeting on payment planned

City council will most likely call a special meeting Thursday or Friday to discuss Lafayette Gatling’s late payment on the Roanoke Rapids Theatre.

Neither. That was Weldon fire Chief Rusty Bolt’s response when board member Earl Smith asked him which station he would prefer to lose.

Weldon begins budget deliberations

Weldon town commissioners today began working on the upcoming fiscal year budget with a directive from Mayor Julia Meacham for each department to cut its budget 3 percent.

Pete Luter’s life was about jumping, friends recalled today.

“He left this world doing what he loved and cherished,” said longtime friend J.B. Smith, who was with Luter when he formed a skydiving club in Roanoke Rapids around 1965.
