Robert Neal Shaw

Robert Neal Shaw, 82, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Hospice Home at High Point.

Born October 12, 1932 in Skippers, VA, he spent most of his life in Gaston.

Robert served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, served with the Strategic Air Command, and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.

He was active in his community with Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce, The Roanoke Valley Shriners and as a member of The Widow’s Son Masonic Lodge in Roanoke Rapids.

Bob had a great love for animals. He raised quarter horses and championship Boston Terriers for many years.

He operated a branch of Strout Realty and later owned and operated Lake Gaston Realty.

He was the developer of Oak Hills Subdivision on Roanoke Rapids Lake, Gaston.

Additionally, Bob was the proprietor of Lake Gaston Mini Mart where he was remembered and loved by many. He also proudly served as a Magistrate with the Northampton County Sixth Judicial Court.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Jean Leola Prickett Shaw; his father, James Elmer Shaw; his mother, Stella Ruth Bobbitt Shaw; his brothers, James Shaw and James Emmett Shaw, Sr.; and a nephew, James “Bill” Emmett Shaw, Jr.

Bob is survived by his sons, Thomas Neal Shaw of Greenville and Matthew Michael Shaw; daughter in law, Cynthia Stringer Shaw; and grandchildren, Evan Shaw and Meredith Shaw, all of Winston Salem.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale High Point Memory Care for their kind, attentive and compassionate care.

A visitation with family will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
