He was born February 2, 1938, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late William L. Plyler and Azilee Moree Plyler.
He honored a twenty-six year stint in the Air Force ascending to the rank of Master Sergeant. He then retired from the Air Force and proceeded to get a four-year degree as an accountant from Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. He settled in Roanoke Rapids and took a job as head security guard at Halifax Memorial Hospital for twelve years before retiring.
William enjoyed retirement as any person would. His preferences were listening to his favorite country artist, Merle Haggard, and growing and tending to a garden. William Plyler was a loving and caring father and devoted husband. He was the kind of man that would do what it takes to help regardless of the situation: a man who lived life and loved all those in his life and accomplished all there was in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Jocelyn Plyler and his children: William Plyler II, Kimberly Plyler, and Victoria Bardwell. He is also survived by his sisters: Yuna Tidwell, Joy Crutchfield, and Wanda Taylor and several nieces and nephews.
