Gladys Elmore Wright

Gladys Elmore Wright, 94, died peacefully in the early morning of Tuesday, December 13, 2016, in Virginia.

Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC on November 25, 1922, she made her home there until 2002 when she moved to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Saluda, VA.

Gladys was the youngest child of Olin Robert and Mary Alice Taylor Elmore, both now long deceased.  She was also pre-deceased by her siblings Edward O. Elmore, Lucille Elmore Hughes, and Hazel Elmore Cranford.  The greatest loss for Gladys was her high school sweetheart and husband of 62 years Dallas P. Wright who died in 2004.

Remaining to remember her with great love are her daughter Linda Wright Osborn and her husband Gary Osborn; grandchildren Emmi Harward and Jay Harward and his wife Tica; sister-in-law Nira Wright; five nieces and nephews; and their families.

A 1940 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School, Gladys was a longtime member of First Christian Church and a retiree from 30 years of service in the offices of J. P. Stevens & Co.  She out-lived many friends whom she made and cherished during those years.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Gladys' life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 3:00 PM at Wrenn, Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service.  Immediately following the service, there will be a time of Visitation so that the family can greet guests who attend.  Burial took place earlier this month in Cedarwood Cemetery during a private family graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made "In Memory of Gladys Elmore Wright" either to
First Christian Church, 836 Roanoke Avenue, RRNC, for their Ministry to Elderly/Homebound Citizens   OR to
Roanoke Rapids High School, 800 Hamilton St. RRNC for the Choral Music Department.
