Mrs. Jones was an active member of Nashville United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a graduate of East Carolina University with a B. S. and Master’s degree, and was a retired 4th grade teacher at Clara Hearne Elementary School in Roanoke Rapids.
She was born March 27, 1919, to the late William Baldy Green and Lily Strauther Green, and was raised in the Hawkins Chapel community. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. W. S. Jones; her brother, William B. Green; her sister, Dorothy G. Hockaday and her husband, Leonard R. Hockaday, Sr.; and her niece, Susan Ellen Hockaday.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her nieces: Marilyn Harding and her husband, Jim, of Raleigh and Carolann Wade and her husband, Rob, of Morrisville; her nephews: Ray Hockaday, and Billy Green, Jr. and wife, Katie, of Roanoke Rapids; her great nieces and nephews: Hunter, Susan and Graham Harding of Raleigh, Laura, Ben and Sarah Wade of Morrisville, and Kristen Green of Roanoke Rapids; sister-in-law: Dot Green of Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, Roanoke Rapids, at 12 noon, conducted by Rev. Sue Owens. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Forest Hills Cemetery in Nashville, N. C.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 11:00 A.M. until noon on Wednesday.
