He was born Feb. 26, 1942, to Albert Harper and Pansy Wilson Harper Hasty.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Retha Pilgreen; step-dad, Clinton Hasty; and a niece, Linda Burris.

Alvin was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees.  

He especially enjoyed the men’s breakfast and helping cook the stews.   

He was a true outdoorsman and was a long time member of Faison Hunting Club.  

On Thursday nights he would go to Seven Sports Hunting Club to enjoy a meal and fellowship.  Alvin always had a large garden so he could share vegetables with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Vickey; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tiffany; 2 granddaughters, Courtney (Chris), and Casey (Thomas); adopted granddaughter, Sarah Daugherty; and brother, Timmy Hasty.

In honor of his memory, the family requests that any person that would like, to wear camouflage to his celebration of life service  which will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at New Hope United Methodist Church.  

Visitors may greet the family from 10:00 – 10:45 am Saturday at the church, and at other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope UMC, PO Box 2117, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870; or to Hospice of Halifax, 220 Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

The family would like to thank his hospice caregivers – Gaynelle, Cheryl and Angie for their help during this time.
