He was born in Greenville, NC, to the late Troy Lee and Erleen Forbes Strickland and was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy A. Layton and his nephew, Dustin Harrison Strickland.
Troy is survived by his special companion of 21 years, Wanda Plyler of Roanoke Rapids; his three sons, Troy Lee Strickland, III and his wife, Kristen, Christopher Warren Strickland and Billy Ray Strickland and his fiancé, Barbie, all of Roanoke Rapids; his two sisters, Teresa S. Portis and her husband, Robert, and Susan S. Williams and her special friend, Joey Hudson, both of Roanoke Rapids; his three brothers, Bobby R. Strickland of Boerne, Texas, Jerry W.  Strickland and his wife, Angela, of Raleigh and Jimmy D. Strickland and his wife, Lisa of Roanoke Rapids; his grandsons, Tylen Lee Strickland, Nathan Ray Strickland, Landen Birdsong and Jonathan Garcia; and his nieces and nephews, Brian Rose, Charlie Williams, Megan Strickland, Tori Strickland, Scotty Strickland, Katie S. Campbell and Blake Portis.  
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Sunday in the Chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.   

Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 1 - 1:45 pm at the funeral home.
