Nancy Shearin Waters

Mrs. Nancy Shearin Waters died peacefully at her home on Lake Gaston Thursday, February 15, 2018, after turning 90 years old in January. 

She was the youngest of twelve children of Hannibal and Pocahontas Shearin of Roanoke Rapids, NC. 

Her husband and four children survive her: Husband Cyril C. Waters of Lake Gaston, NC, and her four children: David R. Waters and his wife Susan of Oxford, NC; Linda W. Long of Chapel Hill, NC; Diane W. Davis and her husband Kearny of Chapel Hill, NC; Jonathan C. Waters and his wife Lisa of Lake Gaston, NC.

She is also survived by her sister Jonnie Belle Clement of Mebane, NC.

Ten grandchildren survive her:  Michael D. Waters and his wife Bridget of Oxford, NC; Jennifer W. Story and her husband Timothy of Mebane, NC; Whitney W. Bulbrook and her husband James; Lauren L. Brookshire and her husband Paul; Leonard D. Long II all of Chapel Hill, NC; Eleanor E. Davis, F. Hannah Davis, Katherine B. Davis all of Chapel Hill, NC; Taylor L.E. Waters and Jaxson C. Waters of Lake Gaston, NC.

Seven great grandchildren survive her: Benjamin Boyd Waters of Oxford, NC; Carson Elizabeth Story and Hunter Harrison Story of Mebane, NC; Simone Alexandra Bulbrook, Heather Danielle Bulbrook, Cole Livingston Brookshire and Jillian Cynthia Brookshire of Chapel Hill, NC.

Brothers and sister who pre-deceased her are Jacob C. Shearin, Edna S. Langston, Cecil S. Buxton, Talmon Shearin, Herman Shearin, Francis S Johnson, Shelby F. Shearin, Louise S. Heustess, Betty S. Edmondson, Lattie S.Thomason.

Nancy was a dedicated and loving wife, beloved mother of four, grandmother of ten, great grandmother of seven and sister of eleven. 

She enjoyed participating at her church, gardening, cooking and community activities.

She was an early graduate of William R. Davie School and a life long member of New Hope Methodist Church. 

As an accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed teaching Home Economics at Halifax Community College for a number of years.  

She was loved by many and had a long wonderful life. 

The family greatly appreciates all the support from friends and loved ones.

Funeral Services to be held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, February 17, 2018 at New Hope Methodist Church, with Reverend Sue Owens presiding.  

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  

Following the committal, the family will greet visitors in the church fellowship hall.
