Sonja Merritt Pepper

Sonja  Merritt  Pepper, 65,  was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 11, 2011, in Chesterfield  County, Virginia.

Mrs. Pepper was very involved in the Relay for Life, and was retired from Halifax County as a Child Support Enforcement Agent.

She was born September 8, 1945, to the late Fletcher and Dora Merritt, and was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Braswell, Jr., her sister, Barbara Pepper, and her brother, Butch Merritt.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Michael Floyd of Chesterfield County, Virginia; her daughter, Stacy Lynn Galle and husband, Benjamin, of Prince George, Virginia;  a special daughter-in-law, Rhonda Braswell; her brother, Sammy Merritt, of Alabama;  her sisters, Dorothy  Storey  and husband , Jimmy, of Roanoke Rapids, and Yvonne Hathaway;  her seven grandchildren: Josh and Joel Floyd, Abby and MacKenzie Galle, Amanda and Jessica Braswell, and Becky Carroll; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and  nephews .  Special thanks to Odyssey Hospice of Colonial Heights, Virginia, and her nurse, Lori McNulty and chaplain, Brawnda Ridley.

Funeral  services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at Victory Baptist Church, with Assistant  Pastor  Doug Gross officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements, and other times at 91 Harper Drive, Roanoke Rapids, the home of her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Jimmy Storey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK  73123-1718.
