Mrs. Shell was a devoted member of Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church and had a deeply rooted faith. She was an avid walker every day up into her 80’s where she could be recognized in her Sunday dress as she walked! She loved every one and let you know she loved you, and she especially loved traveling with her daughter.
Mrs. Shell was born March 29, 1921, to the late John Joyner and Bessie Blythe Joyner and was also preceded in death by her husbands, Lester Freeman Rose and Johnny Shell; her four brothers: Robert Johnson, twins Paul and Tom Joyner, and John Joyner.
She is survived by two sons: Lester Rose and wife, Sara, of Roanoke Rapids and Arthur Rose and wife, Jean of Cary; two daughters; Audrey Hux and husband, Lee, and Verlie Cullom of Roanoke Rapids; one step-son: Alton Shell of Spartanburg, S. C.; one step-daughter: Margaret McDorough and husband John, of Kokomo, Indiana; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements, and other times at 714 E. 14th Street.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church, at 11 A.M. conducted by Rev. Tony Smith. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
