James Edgar Parker

James Edgar Parker 90, of Roanoke Rapids died Sunday August 8, 2010.

Mr. Parker was the son of the late William Edgar and Ruth Peele Parker. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Howell Parker, two brothers George Parker and his twin brother Jesse, two sisters Mary P. Littrell and Esther Wethington and his grandson Shelton Kelsey Liles II.

Mr. Parker Began 34 years of teaching and coaching in 1946 at Littleton High School. He retired in 1980 from the Roanoke Rapids City School system having been a drivers education teacher, World history teacher and Coach since 1958. Loving all sports he Pitched in the minor leagues for the Boston Red Sox in the summer of 1942 in Franklin, Va. He spent many years officiating high school, junior college baseball, basketball and football he especially loved doing this with his twin brother Jesse.

Mr. Parker was a lifetime member of Cedar Grove Friends meeting in Woodland, NC

Mr. Parker is survived by his daughter Margaret P. Dickens and her husband Nick of Littleton; his sister Ruth Eleanor Linville of Oak Ridge, N.C. and two grandsons Jim Liles of Halifax and Daniel Liles and his wife Hillary of Winterville, two sister-in-laws Lib Parker of Virginia Beach, Va and Ruth Parker of Roanoke Rapids.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Severn Cemetery in Severn, N.C. with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

The Family will received friends Monday from 7-8:30 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

The Family would like to give special thanks to his care giver and friend Hazel Jones and to Liberty Commons in Weldon for all their kindness and care to Mr. Parker.
