October 18, 1910 – October 11, 2013

Harry G. Guinivan, 102, of Cary passed away peacefully Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Glenaire Retirement Community.  He was born October 18, 1910 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Guy A. and Emma J. Guinivan.  Harry was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Funk Guinivan and his sister Kathryn G. Fry. 

Harry was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Cary.  Prior to moving to Glenaire, he was a long-standing member of Calvary United Methodist Church at Lake Gaston.

A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. William Green on Tuesday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, 136 Calvary Church Rd., Littleton, NC.  A gathering of friends and dinner will be held immediately following the service in the Calvary United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.  On Monday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m., a memorial service will be held in the Glenaire Auditorium, led by Rev. Green and Rev. Meredith Bratcher, Chaplain at Glenaire.

Harry served in the U.S. Navy and worked with the Federal Government in the Treasury Department, War Department and the Federal Highway Administration. He was especially proud of his work on the Alcan Highway. 

After retirement in 1967, Harry and Dorothy moved to Lake Gaston.  He was active in community affairs and served on the Board of Halifax Memorial Hospital.  Harry and his beloved “Dot” moved to the Glenaire Retirement Community in 1994.

Harry deeply appreciated the wonderful support and friendship received from the residents and staff of Glenaire and from special friends Tony Kinuthia, Mary Whisonant, Wilma Hu and Carlton Myrick.  The loving care given by the staff of Glenaire Healthcare Center and Hospice of Wake County will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, 4000 Glenaire Circle, Cary NC 27511 with notation “For Glenaire Resident Financial Assistance”.
