Mr. Baird was born October 14, 1936 in Halifax County to the late Robert Lloyd Baird and Naomi Walker Baird.  He was a long time truck driver, driving for several companies including, the United States Postal Service,  Blackie Pierce , Pine State, Trinity and Moss, Kings Berry and Nooney Charter.  His grandchildren were his lifeand he loved them very much.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Baird is preceded in death by his brother, David Baird.

Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Betty Horton Baird, of the home; two sons, Michael Baird and William Calvin Baird and wife, Jessica; two brothers, Lloyd Earl Baird and Robert Payne Baird, Sr. and wife, Margaret Anne; one sister, Charlotte Baird Ferguson and husband, Edelyn D. and his sister-in-law, Candy Baird.  Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jacob Tyler Baird and Summer Cheyenne Baird.  

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 6-8 pm.  Rev. Richard C. Russ will conduct a graveside service Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Crestview Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions be made to: National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd.-Suite 300, Frisco, TX 75034
