Helen Tritt Lassiter

Helen Tritt Lassiter, 86, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Weldon.

Mrs. Lassiter was born September 5, 1927 in Halifax County to the late Urise R. and Kate Bain Tritt.

Mrs. Lassiter was employed by J. C. Penney Company for 29 years and, after retiring, stayed active walking with friends, enjoying crafts, gardening and serving as a volunteer for her church and community.

Helen was a long-time, faithful member of First Christian Church.  She was dependable, kind-hearted and generous, always willing to serve whenever a need arose.  One of her greatest joys was giving her homemade bread to co-workers, neighbors and family.  She was a true friend to all who knew her and will be remembered for her integrity, keen sense of humor and strong resolve.

A devoted daughter, sister, sister-in-law, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Helen was happy helping others.  She looked forward to the fall of each year when it was time to make Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, and she worked tirelessly to ensure she finished and mailed them early.  She was the best “Gram” ever!

In addition to her parents Helen was predeceased by her sister, Mildred T. Whitley; her brothers, Robert, Bill and Douglas Tritt; and an infant granddaughter, Jill Goisovich.

She is survived by her daughter, Faye L. Goisovich and husband Glenn of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; her son, Grant Lassiter, of Roanoke Rapids; three brothers, Gene Tritt and wife Anna Wayne; Mack Tritt; and Edsel Tritt and wife Mildred; all of Roanoke Rapids; four grandchildren, Megan Slonac and husband Paul; Heath, Kyle and Alyssa Goisovich; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Riley Slonac; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Bane Angles, Minister and Rev. Randy Martin officiating.  Burial will follow in Old Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and all other times at 1409 Hurley St.

Flowers are welcome and memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, 836 Roanoke Ave. Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
