Alma Estelle Osborne Evans

Estelle Osborne Evans, 80 of Roanoke Rapids died Monday, January 13, 2014 at Rich Square Health Care Center in Rich Square.


Mrs. Evans was born October 27, 1933 in Pitt County to the late Wiley Jefferson Osborne and Mamie Moore Osborne.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sister: Mildred Westfall, Cecil Osborne, Tom Osborne, Ben Osborne, Wiley Osborne, Bo Osborne and Jasper Mayo Osborne.

She was a member of Weldon United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir.  She graduated from Tarboro High School where she was a cheerleader and also played basketball and scored 33 points in a game.  She was an avid bowler and a member of the Southern Belle’s bowling league for over 20 years and the Weldon Garden Club. She was a loving and wonderful mother, grandmother and friend and a good wife. Mrs. Evans loved her customers at BB&T where she worked as a bank teller for over 40 years.

She is survived by her spouse of 21 years: John “J.E.” Evans, Jr. of Weldon; her daughter: Bobbi Evans Butler and her special friend Timmy Patterson of Roanoke Rapids; her son: John “Johnny” Evans, III and his wife Beth of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren: Evan Butler, Hart Evans and Grace Evans; her god daughter: Cindy elks Eubanks of Durham, NC and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held 7:00 P.M. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service and other times at her children’s homes Bobbi Evans Butler and John Evans, III.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Rich Square Health Care Center especially Sandra Person and Andreas Monger.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be made in honor of Estelle Evans to Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
