Rosa Peterson Mitchell

Rosa Peterson Mitchell, 93 of Jefferson Street, Roanoke Rapids died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Roanoke Rapids Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Mitchell was born February 10, 1920 in Halifax County to the late Anthony Peterson and Mamie Poythress Peterson.  She was also preceded in death by her husband: Wallace Bascow Mitchell;  her brothers: John Bell Peterson and Maryland Joseph Peterson; her sisters: Ola Peterson Smith, Carrie Peterson Vaughan and Virginia Peterson Hale.. 

She was a lifelong resident of Weldon, NC until 1989 when she moved to Roanoke Rapids.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and housewife.  She was also a member of Weldon Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son: Coy Wayne Mitchell and his wife Carol of Wilson, NC; her daughters: Ann Mitchell Hawkins and her husband Kenneth of Roanoke Rapids, Gloria Mitchell Wall and her husband Denton of Tarboro and Mamie Mitchell Burns and her husband Bobby of Roanoke Rapids; her grandchildren: Valerie Mitchell, Kimberly Hawkins Vincent, Laura Hawkins-Arn, Sarah Hawkins Boone, Aimee Wall Clark, Jeffrey Wall, Rebecca Creech, Faith Burns and Jacob Burns; her great-grandchildren William Crandell, Kyle Vincent, Hope Vincent, Adam Clark, Autumn Clark, Avery Boone, Aaron Boone, Lilly Anna Snider, Abigail Creech, Bradlee Arn and Daniel Arn.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Weldon Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Thomason officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon.  The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home of her daughter Ann Hawkins.
