Planning Board Meeting

Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids Planning Board will hold a public meeting Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall located at 700 Jackson Street to hear the following items and provide a recommendation to City Council:

  1. Consideration of text amendments (changes) to the Roanoke Rapids Land Use Ordinance regarding the use of property for the following:

  1. a) Article X: Permissible Uses, clarify terminology and use processes.
  2. b) Article II: Basic Definitions and Interpretations; electronic gaming, home occupation, temporary events
  3. c) Article XI: Supplementary Use Regulations
  4. d) Article XII: Density and Dimensional Regulations; minimum standards 
  5. e) Article XXIV: Overlay Districts; Roanoke Avenue

  1. Discussion of the use of Conditional Zoning Districts

Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids City Council will hold a legislative public hearing Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall located at 700 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC to hear the following item:

Consideration of comments regarding a series of mandated text amendments to the Roanoke Rapids Land Use Ordinance to comply with North Carolina General Statute Chapter 160D, which was adopted into law by the NC General Assembly in 2019 and reorganizes the state’s Planning and Development Regulation Statutes.

In addition, the proposed updated ordinance can be reviewed at the Planning Department located at 1040 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, NC, during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Written Comments: Any resident or property owner in the city’s zoning jurisdiction may submit written statements concerning this matter. Please include your name and address on all written statements and submit to City Clerk Traci Storey at least two business days prior to the City Council meeting (deadline of 12 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021).  After this deadline, citizens are encouraged to attend the public hearing to present comments.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Police Officer (Certified)

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate.

Must be able to furnish documentary evidence showing the applicant has met the education requirement for the criminal justice field of expected employment.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Possession of valid driver’s license with an active and consecutive 3-year satisfactory verifiable driving history.  Driving history will be checked. (Must be able to be licensed in the State of North Carolina).

Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the North Carolina Training & Standards Commission.

Salary is Negotiable depending on experience

Building Maintenance Worker (Public Works Dept)

An employee in this position performs skilled technical and trades work in the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment.  An employee in this class performs a variety of City buildings, facilities and equipment maintenance and repair activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Must have a high school diploma or GED.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

Replace light bulbs and repair light fixtures.

Change furnace and air conditioner filters

Works as a member of a Building Maintenance Team to ensure that City facilities are safe and operational.

Lifeguards

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Must be able to complete ½ mile swim in under 20 minutes.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

Teaches Red Cross swimming lessons.

Provides routine pool maintenance to ensure cleanliness and safe environment for patrons.

Works as a team to provide supervision of a large number (sometimes as many as 300 pool patrons – team is comprised of approximately seven lifeguards)

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor.

Equipment Mechanic

An employee in this position serves as a skilled mechanic in the garage.  

This employee performs responsible and specialized skilled mechanical work on a variety of automotive, construction and specialized equipment which will include, but not limited to, mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel motors and engines, and performing preventative maintenance, particularly on heavy equipment.

Essential Duties & Tasks:

Performs responsible and specialized skilled mechanical work on a variety of automotive, construction and specialized equipment.

Mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel motors and engines.

Performs preventative maintenance, particularly on heavy equipment.

Work requires operation of various test equipment and hand tools in order to support the work in both inside and outside environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a high school graduate supplemented by course work in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and engines.

Must have considerable experience in automotive and heavy equipment repair.

Background check and drug screen required.
