Description: This position provides intervention in situations in which adults are reported to be abused, neglected, or exploited. The protective services worker must make initial contact within immediate, 24-48 or 72 hours of receiving the report. The Adult Protective Services Worker’s position involves having contact with the court system, physicians, mental health, and other agencies when preparing petitions authorizing protective and emergency service and when obtaining guardianship of an adult after an APS investigation. If guardianship is granted the social worker may have to assist with placement of the disabled adult in an environment that would be safe and beneficial. This position would also serve as the Adult Home Specialist to investigate complaints of abuse, neglect or exploitation of disabled adults who are residing in an adult care home or a family care home. This social worker will also monitor the facilities which include the Adult Care Homes, Family Care Homes, and the Adult Day Care Center. This position will also serve as the Guardianship Social Worker. This position will serve as the intake social worker on a rotating basis with the other social workers in the unit. This position will perform any other duties as assigned.

Deputy Sheriff

Description: A Deputy Sheriff is responsible for the general law enforcement work required by the Sheriff's Office. Solid Waste Utility – Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Supervisor

Description: This position oversees the physical operations, maintenance, and repairs of the county landfill, coordinating the flow of waste materials into and out of the facility in an efficient manner. Ability to communicate with people of different backgrounds and socioeconomic conditions. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Public Utilities Director.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED. At least 3 years of experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment OR 3 years of experience in a related field of work. Prefer applicants with Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willing to obtain within 12-months. Ability to obtain required solid waste certifications. Supervisory experience is preferred but not required.

Compensation: The hiring range for this position is $41,294 - $52,283. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.

Description: This position performs technical work dispatching law enforcement, medical, fire, rescue and other equipment and personnel in response to emergency and non-emergency situations. Other requirements include working at a communications console for extended periods of time, analyzing communications, detailed & accurate typing, and speaking distinctly. Applicants will need to possess the ability to deal courteously with the public and emergency responders under stressful conditions.

Position involves working varying shifts, which will include weekend and holiday schedules.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain DCI (Division of Criminal Investigations), Basic Telecommunicator, EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) and CPR certifications. Prefer persons with experience in computerized dispatching or in law-enforcement, EMS, or fire dispatching, and the knowledge of the Halifax County area. This position requires working scheduled shifts. The position requires the ability to type 35 wpm.
