A Roanoke Rapids man faces multiple drug charges following a Friday morning raid at his Zoo Road North residence, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

According to warrants, Matthew “Speedy” Garner was in possession of 14.72 grams of cocaine, six dosage units described as oxymorphone with an imprint of 230, four dosage units of Xanax, and a digital scale.

Garner was no longer listed in the Halifax County Detention Center records as of today. He has a first appearance scheduled for Wednesday in Halifax County District Court.

Major Anzell Harris said agents, with assistance from the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigations Division and Community Action Team, secured the residence and then conducted a search of the property. Agents seized suspected cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, various prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, and currency.

Garner was arrested and charged with:

Possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine

Felony possession of cocaine

Felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance

Felony maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances

Misdemeanor possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance

Simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Harris noted Garner and his residence are no strangers to the task force. In December 2022, agents served a narcotics-related search warrant at the property, and Garner was arrested on multiple drug charges.
