The Roanoke Valley U10 girls softball All-stars opened Little League District 4 tournament in Elizabeth City Saturday and are now headed to the Championship Monday.

The RV team faced Edenton Chowan and won 16-6 in four innings.

Lily Curtis was on the mound with Ashlyn Cooke behind the plate for RV All-stars. Lily Curtis takes Edenton Chowan for 12 strike outs and only 3 walks.

 

At the plate Roanoke Valley had Lauren Garner going 4-4 with 3 singles and a walk, Brooke Ott 3-4 with 2 singles, a walk, and a sacrifice bunt, Lily Curtis 3-4 with 2 singles and a walk, Logan Storey 3-3 on base with 3 walks, Susannah Odom 3-4 with 2 singles and a walk, Ashlyn Cooke 3-4 with with 3 walks, Morgan Hudomint 3-3 with a single, triple, and hit by a pitch, Madison Etheridge 2 walks, Ella Howell 2-1 with a walk, and Gracie Mason 1-3 with a single.

 

The girls then advanced to face Dare County Sunday in the District tournament. Roanoke Valley had lost twice to Dare County in both close games in the Area warm-up tournament last weekend.

 

The Roanoke Valley All Stars have another nail biter against Dare County, this time Roanoke Valley came back from the 2nd inning 6-0 deficit to beat Dare County in the winners bracket 8-7 in 6 innings.

 

Lily Curtis on the mound again for Roanoke Valley pitching and Gracie Mason behind the plate, Curtis earned 12 strikeouts and only gave up 3 walks. “Dare County started out getting hits in the wholes and being able to capitalize but the Roanoke Valley team never gave up and fought back offensively and defensively to pull out a great win,” said head coach Jen Ott.

At the plate Lauren Garner went 2-4 with a single, walk, and sacrifice bunt, 3-4 with a single, a walk, a d hit by a pitch, Lily Curtis was 3-4 with 3 walks, Logan Storey 2-4 with a triple and a game winning double to bring in Brooke Ott for the win, Ashlyn Cooke 1-3 with a single and a snagged line shot snagged early to wind up the RV offense and get them fired up, Morgan Hudomint 2-3 with a single and walk, Gracie Mason 2-3 with 2 walks, and Ella Howell 1-2 with a walk.

 

"So proud of my girls for never giving up, sticking together as a team, and pulling off an amazing upset. I knew they could do it and they made me so proud pulling it out," added Ott.

 

The Roanoke Valley U10 All-stars now advance to the District Championship game to be played in Elizabeth City Monday at 5pm.
