The Roanoke Valley U10 girls softball All-stars came up short in two Championship games.

The Roanoke Valley All-stars had earned a spot in the Little League District 4 championship game Monday night with a 2-0 record. They entered the championship without a lose, so they would have to be beat twice if Dare County was going to prevail.

In game one, Lily Curtis was on the mound with Gracie Mason behind the plate. Lily pitched a full 6 innings with 15 strikeouts.

Leading the Roanoke Valley team at the plate were: Gracie Mason 3-3 with 3 walks, Morgan Hudomint 2-3 with a single and a walk, Ashlyn Cooke 2-3 with a single and a walk, and Brooke Ott 2-4 with a single and a walk.

The game ended with Roanoke Valley falling 5-7, pushing this continuous head to head nail biter battle into game 2 to determine a Champion.

In game 2, Lily Curtis took the mound for 4 and a half innings with a short break given by Ashlyn Cooke. Curtis pitched 6 strikeouts this game.

Leading the charge at bat for Roanoke Valley was Brooke Ott going 3-4 with 2 singles and a walk, Lauren Garner and Lily Curtis both going 3-4 with 3 walks each, Gracie Mason 2-3 with 2 walks, Ashlyn Cooke 2-4 with a single and a double, and Morgan Hudomint 2-4 with 2 singles.

Again the Roanoke Valley U10 All-stars fell just short loosing in the 6th inning by only 1 run with a final score of 11-10.

The Roanoke Valley girls finished the Little League District 4 tournament with a 2-2 record earning them a second place in the tournament.

Head Coach Jen Ott had the following comments after the game, “I was so proud of my girls for never giving up. We would get down, and every time up until the last at bat we kept fighting back. These 2 teams have met 5 times (twice in Area warm-up tournament & three times here) in the last 2 weeks and every time it has been amazing softball played by both sides, never a dull moment when they met up. Sadly our All-star journey for this year ends here as Little League only advances the winning team not the top 2. I feel truly blessed to have been able to coach such an amazing, talented group of girls through this journey. Thanks for all the hard work and support of my coaching staff: Timmy Ott, Jim Storey, Daniel Howell, and Jason Cooke without all of us pulling together and doing out part we wouldn't have improved so much and made it this far. Finally thanks so much to our families for sticking with and supporting us through a month full of crazy schedules, late nights, and long miles. I hope all these girls enjoyed this journey as much as I did.
