Wheeler built wins again.
First it was Dale Earnhardt Jr, then Kevin Harvick and now
Jeff Gordon. One thing these three NASCAR drivers have in
common is they all have had a little help from Halifax County
native Earl Wheeler. Wheeler earned his third NASCAR win as
a Hendrick Motorsports engine builder Sunday. Driver Jeff
Gordon won at Michigan from the pole position with horse
power built by Wheeler.
In victory lane Jeff Gordon stated, “This engine was amazing.”
When asked by RRSPIN about Gordon's comment, Wheeler
said, “I'm just really humbled by the opportunity I have to be
a part of the Hendrick Engine Dept!”
With Hendrick Motorsports supplying engines to Stewart-Hass
racing, last weeks events hit home to Wheeler. “This win really
sheds some light on a very emotional week and is a reminder
of why we love the sport of auto racing! My heart and prayers
go out to the Ward Family, Tony Stewart, rescue workers,
spectators, fans, and all the people that were touched by the
tragedy of last week's events, Said Wheeler.
Though Wheeler was not at the track Sunday, he and other
Hendrick Motorsports team members will have the chance to
celebrate Monday at the shop as one big team win. “My
congratulations to Jeff Gordon and the 24 team and all of
Hendrick Motorsports! Hendrick Engines Rock and I'm just
proud to be a small part of it!” added Wheeler.
