A new beginning
The Roanoke Rapids varsity boys basketball will be
seeing new leadership this season from court-side.
Physical Education teacher, Assistant football coach
Tyler Snyder who moved to Roanoke Rapids in March
from Illinois has been named the 2014-15 RRHS varsity
boy basketball coach.
Coach Snyder came from Illinois where he coached
football and baseball for his alma mater, Illinois Valley
Central High School located in Chillicothe, IL. Coach
Snyder has coached basketball before, the 7th grade
boys basketball at Chillicothe Junior High.  Coach
Snyder brings experience and knowledge to the kids,
he played football, basketball and baseball in High
School as well as playing those three sports at the
college level. Coach Snyder stated, "I didn't play much
as a Freshmen or Sophomore in College so I know the
work that needs to go into to get on the court. Whether
it is help with their jump shots or post moves, they
know they can ask me."
"In seeing what I have so far at practice, which is
without those members on the Varsity Football Team,
I am excited. I see excitement in the boys eyes when
we do drills and they really get after it on the court,"
said coach Snyder. The Varsity Jackets had a 12-12
record last season under coach Seymour and coach
Snyder expects his team to improve every game and
build on what coach Seymour did last season.
"The kids know I always want them to do their best
both in the classroom and on the court. I want them
to know that basketball a team sport and if they use
their teammates, we will be successful," coach Snyder
stated.

Coach Jimmie Monroe, last season's boys JV coach
will return this season as the JV coach and will assist
coach Snyder with the varsity team.

Due to the extended football season Roanoke Rapids
the first two basketball games have had to be
rescheduled
and at this time the Yellow Jackets
season opener will b
e December 3rd on the road at
Farmville Central.
