From 2-9 to 10-4 conference champions
The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets went from a 2-9 2013 season with coach Will Clark and hearing of his leaving in June of 2014, not knowing what they would be facing in the 2014 season. It was just before the August 1 start date of official practice that new coach Eric McDaniels was named as the RRHS Jackets new head coach.
These players learned from day one that Coach McDaniels was here to stay and was old school football and stood behind his players. He came in with no summer conditioning and behind every other school in the Northern Carolina conference. Polls had Roanoke Rapids not to win a game in the conference and wasn't looking good to even better the 2013 season two wins.
Coach McDaniels and his assistant coaching staff went to work and the couple losses in the beginning of the season were to powerhouse 3A teams Southern Nash and Wilson Fike. Then the Jackets won games and went on to win the 2A Northern Carolina conference and make it past the first two rounds in the NCHSAA state playoffs and head to the third round.
Though the Jackets met a match with Washington Pam-Pack and fell 0-28 everyone of those players can hold their heads high for the things that were done in the 2014 season at Roanoke Rapids High school. And hats off to each and every player and coach and everyone part of this team. }Why Not Us" 2014.
