Varsity basketball at the Hive
Weldon High school earned the wins Friday night over Roanoke Rapids, but neither were easy.
There was not an empty seat in the house and not a fan sitting, everyone was on their feet in both match-ups.
In the Varsity girls game, Weldon won the match-up 69-60.
Leading scorers for Weldon were: Tahlia Boone with 41 points and 11 rebounds with 7 steals, Jacole Whitaker with 7 points, Tanija Willis with 6 points, Alexis Ingram and Lanesha Northington with 5 points each.
Leading scorers for Roanoke Rapids were: Alizae Neville with 24 points Brooke McClenny with 12 points, Brionna Gibson with 8 points, Brianna Allen with 6 points, Haley Farrow with 7 points.

In the varsity boys action, Roanoke Rapids held a three point lead 29-26, but the final would go Weldon's way in the end. Weldon beat Roanoke Rapids 62-57.
Leading scorers for Weldon were: MelQuan Ames with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Malik Peebles with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Leading scorers for Roanoke Rapids were: DJ Jones and Marcus Jones with 15 points each.
