RRHS Swim team
The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets had another strong
showing on Thursday at Aycock Pool in Henderson. The
Jackets were part of 5 teams competing, swimming
against Northern Vance, Southern Vance, Franklinton
and Louisburg.
The boys swam well, despite being shorthanded due to
injuries swam to a second place finish, losing by only 6
points. Northern Vance won on the boys side by a score
of 122-116.
The boys were lead by strong swims from Shaun Fromal
(100 Breast winner), James Evans(100 Free winner),
Nick Denny(50 Free winner), Luke Robertson who
together recorded an automatic qualification time for
Regionals in the 400 Free Relay. Evans, Denny, and
Fromal were also individual winners. Ryan Harrison
(500 Free), Alex Leard (100 Breast), Colby Allen (50 Free)
and Lonnie Harrison(100 Free) also had personal bests
in their respective events.
The Girls Team had an incredible meet, winning by a
score of 148-89 over the squad from Northern Vance.
They were lead to victory by the individual efforts of
Addie Nixon(100 Breast and 200 IM), Rachel Price(50
Free), Amy Fromal (100 Breast), Katherine King (100
Back), Chelsea Brown(500 Freestyle) who dominated
the competition. The Jackets were helped by yet another
personal best from Emma Barber (200 and 500 freestyle),
as well as Karalee Miller (500 Free), Lindsay Holt (100
Freestyle), and Megan Colston (200 IM). However, the
highlight of the meet surely was Kristy Price, who in
addition to winning the 100 Fly by a 4 second margin,
took down a 10 year old school record. Price is only a
sophomore and stated that she looks to lower that
record again within this season, and again at conference
and regional championship meets.
The Jackets are back in action this Friday at TJ Davis
Aquatic Center, with their first home meet. Come out
and support this awesome group of kids at 4:30!!
