RRHS Wrestling action

The Roanoke Rapids wrestling team Wrestled in a tri-
match Tuesday against South Granville and Kerr-Vance 
Academy.

Roanoke Rpids lost 72-12 against South Granville, Match 
winners were:  Jake Newsome at 113 lbs. and Thomas 
Rhea at 120 lbs. 

Roanoke Rapids won against Kerr-Vance Academy 45-24. 
Winners Nasar Tanash 106 lbs., Jake Newsome 113 lbs, 
Isaiah Ellis 126 lbs, Andrew Rizzitano 145 lbs, Tony 
Mason 160 lbs, Brandon Oliver 170 lbs, Nathan Dixon 
182 lbs, John Gilfillan 195 lbs and Alvin Johnston 220 lbs. 

Roanoke Rapids had to forfeit three weight classes given 
up 18 points to each team. 

Andrew Rizzitano won a hard fought match winning 17-16 
against Kerr Vance Academy.
 
Head coach Don White stated after the matches, “As a 
team, we are starting to use the moves being shown at 
practice. Doing what we call chain wrestling. When one 
move doesn't work, use another. With such a young team, 
I was proud of their effort.” 

Next match, Thursday 01-15-15, home against North 
Carolina School of Science and Math.
