Wednesday was National Signing Day for High school football Seniors to sign letters of intent to play colligate football.
Roanoke Rapids 2015 Senior QB De'Jaun Walker signed his letter to play football at Chowan University in Murfreesboro. Walker will a running back for the Hawks and wear his #6 jersey on a full scholorship.
While on the varsity football team at Roanoke Rapids, Walker played 25 games, while on offense as QB he completed 69-149 passes for 1,007 yards with 7 touchdown passes and 6 total interceptions in the two year time span and only 3 fumbles. Walker carried the ball 311 times for 2,334 yards and 28 touchdowns, 2 conversions. Walker had 7 receptions for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns as well. While on defense Walker had 43 solo and 22 assited tackles, caught 4 interceptions and recovered 3 fumbles and caused 2 fumbles. While on special teams he had 17 kickoff returns for 393 yards and 7 punt returns for 209 yards.
Walker was named 2015 Conference Offensive back of the year, All-conference and team MVP.
Roanoke Rapids Head coach Eric McDaniels stated, "After only 6 months in Roanoke Rapids, have seen that Walker is well deserving of his accomplishments as he is a worker. DeJuan"s signing at Chowan is great for the Roanoke Rapids area in a selfish aspect as they are just 40 miles down the road. Plus, its a very good fit as Coach Tim Place and his staff are getting an athlete that could have an immediate impact. Roanoke Rapids football program can"t replace Walker; outstanding player, hard worker, very good leader. Walker knows the importance of TEAM - makes him a outstanding young man. Looking forward to seeing him at the next level.
