A special night for #TEAMGEARY

It was a night of varsity action only Friday night at the HIVE as Roanoke Rapids hosted The NC School of Science. & Math, but between games Jan Tugwell & RRHS Deca presented RRHS staff member Chad Geary and his family proceeds from #TEAMGEARY t-shirts. Geary in fighting for his life against Cancer. He won the fight 2 1/2 years ago, but this battle is a much harder fight.

The varsity girls won their matchup beating NCShool of Science & Math 61-51.

Leading scorers for Roanoke Rapids were: Alizae Neville with 29 points, Brianna Allen with 10 points, Kaitlin & Taylor Medlin with 7 points each and Imani Cole with 3 points.

Head coach Jim Whitmire's comments, "The Yellow Jacket Varsity Girls got back to winning with a conference win over NCSSM.   We got a little, as usual, but picked up the intensity quickly.   We gave up the first basket to NCSSM, then took the lead and never looked back.   This is the first "complete game" for this group.   We took care of the ball and made key shots, including free throws.   We played very good defense on a very well coached team.   We made some adjustments to shutdown their biggest scoring threat and the girls responded with authority.   We had great bench play from Imani Cole, Brionna Gibson and Erica Whitmire.   This was our best all around game of the year.   Leading from wire to wire and eliminating mistakes made this win especially good for this group.   This gives us even more momentum going into the conference tournament.   The starters, Alizae, Bree, Brooke, Caitlyn and Taylor played as the team that they are capable of and all contributed to the scoring and the intense defense.

We have come from "hoping for some wins" to "looking for a conference tournament championship".   We are at home next Tuesday against Bunn (first place in conference) for our "White Out" game.   There are special shirts for sale for this one.   Please come out and support the team and show your spirit for this event.   Shirts will be available at the door.   Come early and watch the girls strive to be the "Giant Killers".

Also rrspin.com sports and TD Sports will have a limited amount of White shirts for students with a Roanoke Rapids school system school ID starting around 6PM in the lobby.

Varsity boys lost 56-53.

Leading scorers for Roanoke Rapids were: De'Jaun Walker with 20 points, Marcus Jones & DJ Jones with 12 points each.
