Even though we have had two weeks of artic winter conditions, on Sunday March 1st it was all aboutsoftball in the Roanoke Rapids High School Armory.

The Roanoke Valley Lady Venom U12 travel softball team participated in a softball camp put on by the Lady Lighting travel Showcase team based out of Raliegh.  Lady Lighting is an elite showcase team made up of 11 girls from around the state.  They travel around the United States to play high level tournaments.  Half of the girls on this team have already been signed to various colleges, including ECU, NC STATE, and Barton College to name a few.  The girls on this team traveled from as far as Greensboro to come down and put on this camp for Lady Venom.

A Junior at Roanoke Rapids High School, Sierra Hearp is a member of the Lady Lighting team and helped lead the camp coming to Roanoke Rapids. The camp focused on fielding and hitting, breaking the girls into small groups.  Each group was led byone-two members of the Lady Lighting team.  Nicky Reda head coach for Lady Venom stated: “this campwas a great opportunity for our girls to work in small groups and focus on learning proper technique”. If there is enough interest in the community, the Lady Lighting Team would like to come back to RoanokeRapids and put on another camp open to the community late this summer.
