Purchase your ticket to help honor the late coach Mike Newsome

"Team Mike" is trying to raise funds to place a 35ft flagpole in honor of coach Mike Newsome who passed away in January of this year.

This is not just some little flagpole, but a very nice commercial flagpole with an all-weather flag with a light that will be flown 24 hours a day at Chockeyotte Park at coach Michael Grant Newsome Fields in Roanoke Rapids.

Coach Newsome touched a lot of hearts in Roanoke Rapids on and off the field. If you or your daughter played softball in the Valley within the past 20 years or more,  then you knew coach Mike. He had coached basketball and softball at Halifax Academy, softball at Chaloner Middle and KIPP High and basketball at Roanoke Rapids High, not to mention summer  babe Ruth softball and even soccer. Coach was well loved and respected by the children and parents in the Valley.

Team Mike is having a Hotdog bag lunch sale Friday April 17th in their next event to help raise funds. It will be two hotdogs, chips, drink and a Little Debbie snack cake. Tickets are on sale at Discount tire of Roanoke Rapids, Christian Love at Nissan of Roanoke Rapids, WPTM radio station in Weldon, Cathy Pruitt or Randy Wrenn.
