The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets youth team held it's season end banquet Friday night at Kirkwood Adams center.
The Halifax-Northampton Youth Football League Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets JV and Varsity teams gathered to pass out awards and receive their 2015 Super Bowl Championship rings.
The kids were treated for more than just trophies and rings, they had two guest speakers, Roanoke Rapids High school head football coach Eric McDaniels and Former RRHS and Current East Carolina University football player Caleb Pratt.
Pratt just finished his Freshman season for ECU as a walk on starting kick-off kicker for the Pirates. Pratt also set a ECU school record with his total kick-off touchbacks in one season for ECU.
Pratt played youth football one year in Roanoke Rapids, but it was for the Pop Warner league for the Rockers. "It was an honor to be able to come back and talk to the kids and share some of the fun times I had this season and talk about some of the lessons I've learned playing sports my whole life," said Pratt.
"I just reminded them to set a goal and work hard everyday to achieve it. It was great to see so much hard work and dedication put into giving the youth a chance to play a great sport through this program and will definitely feed more young athletes into the Yellow Jackets football program," Pratt added.
Conference players were Wayne Wilkins, Colin Clements, and Austin Geary.
Pratt presented Savion Cole the "Chad L. Geary" award for outstanding sportsmanship. "Since I played for Coach Geary and knew how great of a man he was, it was a really special moment when they gave out an award to honor him," said Pratt.
Pratt stated. "It was great to reconnect with Coach McDaniels and see his dedication to making football in Roanoke Rapids grow."
