The Roanoke Rapids Youth Baseball Association (RRYBA) along with the City of Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation and several volunteers continue with Ledgerwood Park ball fields upgrades.
The RRYBA is set to host it's first Cal-Ripkin Southeast Regional baseball tournament in July 2016 and along with that great task was the RRYBA want to upgrade the Ledgerwood park fields. The tournament will bring 16 teams to Halifax County and expected to bring in around $600,000.00 in revenues for our area within that week.
The Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation recently added Grass sod to he baselines on King field and grass sod to the complete dirt infield on the Minor league field. More interior four foot fence was erected at the two vehicle entrances and between the field and parking lot at the Minor League field.
On King field last month Volunteers helped remove the fence, dig up the poles, clean the area up, organize all the re-usable fencing, barricade the worksite for three and a half hours start to finish. Now the foundation for a brick backstop has been completed and poles will be set this week for the safety net that will be installed from the two dugouts and from the brick backstop to approx. 20 ft in the air. This will give the field a more professional look and fans a better view on the field during the games.
